Night

Moon glows bright
Illuminating darkness.
Critters scamper creeping
Stalking the night,
Innocents’ softly sleeping.

Awake!

Prey darts; fright
Overcomes the murkiness.
Small ones scurrying
Hoping they might
Escape; capture looming.

Talons, claws, squeeze with might,
Tiny hearts cease; powerless
To hunter’s jowls gnashing.
Shrewd eyes peer from nests’ height
Their next victim watching.
